The four storey Robinson library extension was constructed during 1995 and 1996 at Newcastle University. Because it's structure comprises a relatively straightforward reinforced concrete frame, it has been used by Prof. J. Knapton as a case study. The pictures in this page illustrate the construction of the extension. They show the reinforcement in the flat slab construction on Level 4. Note the detail of the reinforcement and the tubular screed rail which ensures that the slab is constructed to the correct thickness. Note that a film of the construction of the Robinson Library Reinforced concrete frame is available from Newcastle University's Audio Visual Section.
